Poplar Grove is located in Boone county about 15 miles east-northeast of downtown Rockford along Highway 173 in Northern Illinois. Boone County was formed in 1836 and named for frontiersman Daniel Boone. The county was created from eastern Winnebago County and borders Wisconsin on the north side, McHenry County on the east and DeKalb County on the south. Of the northern tier of counties, it is the smallest--at 290 square miles. The original settlers of the area were the Potawatomi Native Americans.

A small village just north of the county seat of Belvidere, Poplar Grove offers a relaxed way of life yet is close to other communities. This makes the village a very attractive place to live. In addition to Lion’s Park, the Illinois Long Prairie Trail runs through the village. This is a paved trail that runs the length of Boone county from East to West.

Poplar Grove is a village that prides itself on supporting its schools, churches, local businesses and community.
